INDICATION: Skin lesion recently biopsied on leg, concerning for melanoma. Recent right arm weakness. Rule out brain metastases. TECHNIQUE: Non-contrast CT scan of the head. COMPARISON: None available. FINDINGS: Within the left parietal lobe, there is a 1.2 x 2.1 x 1.8 cm (ML x AP x CC) mass which demonstrates central low attenuation, and extensive surrounding white matter low attenuation change consistent with edema. The lesion has a hyperattenuating rim. There is moderate effacement of the posterior aspect of the lateral horn of the left lateral ventricle. There is no herniation or hydrocephalus. No other lesion is seen. No other focus of edema is identified. Brain volume is normal for age. The extra-axial spaces are clear. The orbits are normal. No bone lesion is identified. The paranasal sinuses, mastoid air cells, and middle ears are clear. IMPRESSION: Mass lesion in the left parietal lobe consistent with metastatic malignant melanoma given the clinical history. An urgent oncologic and neurosurgical consultation should be obtained. Follow-up imaging with MRI to evaluate for additional metastases is advised.
